The Salem Pantry was once a monthly pop up shop run by all volunteers. After years of volunteer work at The Open Door food pantry in Gloucester, we at Brace Cove were convinced that the city of Salem needed more to move the needle on the pervasive problem of food insecurity. After our experience at Art Haven, we knew that hiring the right staff was a necessary step to ensure the success of the efforts to alleviate food insecurity in Salem. Our investment at the Salem Pantry included:

  • one year on the Board of Directors

  • leading the search for and hiring of the organization's first full time Executive Director

  • grant writing

  • approximately $50,000

  • volunteer hours at food distribution and other events
